Our Staff

Personal care requires a personal touch

Our Passion

Our passion is to ensure that the patient gets exactly what they need. Our practice exists to break the cycle of the patient becoming a commodity in a revolving door of health care. We find out why you are in pain and then identify the best treatment to improve your function and eliminate your pain. The majority of treatment consists of manually breaking down muscle adhesion.

The most enjoyable part is seeing a person’s face when their problem is truly identified and addressed. The happiness that we can share when someone is able to wake up in the morning without pain, run their best time, lift their grandchild, achieve a personal best in a competition, and play ball with their children – this is what motivates all of us.

Meet Dr. Carl Nottoli

Clinical Director

In 2006 Carl Nottoli completed his undergraduate degree at Alma College in Alma, Michigan, graduating Cum Laude with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He was an MIAA football scholar in 2004 and 2005 and successfully earned a place on the Dean’s List from 2004 through 2006. Dr. Nottoli went on to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic in 2012.

He was Co-Valedictorian of his graduating class, earned the Academic Excellence Award, and was a nominee for the Clinical Excellence Award. In addition to his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Dr. Nottoli has earned numerous rehabilitative and sports injury related certifications, the most important being The Integrative Diagnosis® (ID) System Certification–developed by Dr. William Brady. He is one of the nation’s foremost experts in addressing chronic musculoskeletal problems and soft-tissue injuries. Dr. Nottoli is 1 of 3 instructors that Dr. Brady selected to help train doctors/therapists in this revolutionary form of musculoskeletal care. He has also successfully treated professional and Olympic athletes.

Personal Interests

In his time outside of the clinic, Dr. Nottoli enjoys being active with his wife Shannon, their two sons Maddox and Wyatt, and their huskies.

As clinic director at Functional Spine and Sport, my professional journey is always moving toward clinical excellence. You can trust that you will receive the highest quality musculoskeletal care in the country.

Meet Dr. Seth Schultz

Dr. Seth Schultz attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa where he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in February 2015. While at the Palmer Clinics he was chosen as a clinical teaching assistant during his final term. Dr. Schultz believes that continuing to educate yourself should never cease. He has focused his post-graduate studies on becoming a full body certified Integrative Diagnosis® (ID) provider.

Dr. Schultz is our resident low back, hip, and sciatica specialist. He is the first low back and hip specialist in the midwest! This comes after 2 intense years of training and managing difficult cases with Dr. Nottoli and Dr. William Brady of Integrative Diagnosis®. There is a massive need for low back and hip specialists in conservative care. Low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide and costs the healthcare system upwards of $100 billion/year. Dr. Schultz is here to break the cycle of endless cortisone injections, countless physical therapy rounds and adjustments every week.

I’ve been fortunate enough to help numerous patients who were suffering with low back or hip pain for years and had seen multiple doctors. All to no avail. They were frustrated. They were at the end of their road. That all changed once we took the time to completely and accurately diagnose their problem. Then we built a custom treatment plan to put them on the fast track to a better life.

Personal Interests

Dr. Schultz enjoys spending his time outside of the clinic hiking with his wife Kelsey. They love exploring all the great trails Lake County has to offer.

I believe that every clinical solution must be as unique as the patient who trusts me with their health. I have based how I practice on results that offer a different, more complete, solution to lower back, hip, and sciatic pain.
